Housing Counseling is a free, confidential service provided by HUD certified housing counselors at community based non-profits. Housing counselors help people prepare for buying a home, and provide the advice and tools needed to remain a homeowner. Agencies also help homeowners who are having trouble making their monthly mortgage payments.
What do I get?
Access to counseling services that help you prepare for homeownership, teach you how to maintain your home, and help prevent you from foreclosure. Specific services include:
- Homebuyer education classes
- One-on-one homebuyer counseling
- Information on affordable mortgages and down-payment assistance
- Credit counseling
- Financial literacy classes
- Predatory lending prevention
- Post purchase counseling
- HECM (reverse mortgage) counseling for seniors
- Foreclosure prevention and mortgage default counseling
How long do I get it?
The Atlanta Housing Counseling Network will work with you for as long as needed.
