Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP)

Do you need help paying your energy bill?

Quick Facts
What is it?
LIHEAP is a government program that helps families and senior citizens pay their home energy costs, such as heating and electricity bills.

LIHEAP also helps families pay for ‘weatherizing’ their homes, such as putting in ceiling insulation, caulking and weather stripping. This helps keep heating and cooling costs down.

What do I get?
Payments to your energy company worth $174 to $220, depending on your family size and income. Some households may also get a one-time benefit if they have an emergency and cannot pay their energy bills.

If your energy costs are included in your rent, you can still get LIHEAP.

How long do I get it?
You can get LIHEAP during winter months. You need to reapply each winter.
